Perched on a hillside in Glendale, this residence faces west, capturing breathtaking views. The initial design incorporated a substantial brick fireplace to mitigate the afternoon sun's heat. Embracing contemporary glass technology, our redesign allowed for the removal of the fireplace while minimizing solar heat gain through new windows and doors. The revamped layout prioritizes transparency, welcoming natural light and panoramic hillside vistas into the grand room. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and an elongated kitchen window now seamlessly connect the interior to the backyard, offering both a sense of openness and the desired privacy, especially in consideration of the nearby hiking trail along the upper slope.
